Baptism

Family Camp has always been such a special time for our family so we decided that we would have Master 0 baptized there. The older boys recited his blessing (Deuteronomy 33:24-25):

About Asher he said: ?“Most blessed of sons is Asher; ? let him be favored by his brothers, ? and let him bathe his feet in oil.
The bolts of your gates will be iron and bronze,
?and your strength will equal your days.”
Then David told a bit about what a blessing Asher has been to our family and how God really got us through a rather impossible year. I don’t think I would have thought it possible to survive 7 months pregnant working 30 hours at a stretch in the CCU but somehow we made it through. And then Easter weekend we thought he was coming and I left work and was ready but instead we were blessed with a quiet weekend together as a family of 4 giving us a moment of calm before the chaos of a newborn. All reflections of our God has cared for us through this crazy life.

Family Camp

One of the things we look forward to all year is Family Camp. Here’s why (really in no particular order):

10. Food ready for you at every meal – just grab the plates and fill them up
9. Getting to know lots of other amazing families from our church
8. Swimming and playing on the beach
7. Singing in large group (we sing those songs all year)
6. Campfires with smores (the boys were so excited about the s’mores and checked many times to make sure we brought the ingredients)
5. Lots of running – soccer, ultimate frisbee, even cricket
4. The giant slip and slide
3. Story time with the Mays
2. Kayaking on the lake
1. Staying up irresponsibly late and hanging out with friends around the campfire while all the small ones are sleeping

I could add another 10 but I think it’s clear how much we love it.

George’s Island

On Nana’s last day in Boston we headed out to one of the Boston Harbor Islands that has a big fort perfect for exploring. We brought along our flashlights and readied ourselves for adventure.

We found these cannons that Mr. 6 thought looked like rockets and we spent time counting down and launching them.

We ended up waiting and waiting for the ferry home. The boys played “A my name is … (perhaps Asher) and I could from … (I think they chose Antarctica but I don’t remember exactly).” We made it through almost the whole alphabet and I was amazed how many places the boys could come up with on their own. They did a great job keeping a good attitude while waiting. I was not quite as patient.

You’ll also notice the matching shirts – the boys LOVE their Star Wars shirts. Mr. 4’s shirt is actually too small but he still requests it every other day (alternating with his tie dye shirt from his spring concert). And matching brothers is one of our favorite things!

Snorkeling

Mr. 6 was excited to try out snorkeling at Family Camp. Here he is all geared – possibly too much gear?

Unfortunately it was a bit too cold for Mr. 6 and he decided to observe the lake from the beach.

Panther cave

Hiking is definitely a favorite activity in our family. In fact I recently was reminded how much fun we have all being outside exploring together when we tried to do just the opposite and had to drag our cranky children back to the car after spending the morning being contained indoors. A favorite place is the nearby Fells where we often take the same trail. We decided to try out some new trails and when I saw the Panther Cave on the map I knew we had to try. Our first attempt was just me and the boys on a hot humid day and we were driven back by the swarms of mosquitos. The next time we came armed with bug spray and a map and found the cave. The boys explored while Master 0 slept. No panthers were found but lots of fun was had.

Mr. 6 thought it was one of his bravest adventures.

Catching up

It’s been a busy couple of weeks but we’re starting September with good intentions.
